The Philadelphia Eagles are going to have to make some tough decisions on who they start with this season.
They have already begun to make the tough calls, though, with the selection of new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor.
The former Michigan head coach will replace Doug Pederson, who has been the Eagles offensive coordinator since the team traded for him in February.
Pederson has been a popular choice among fans and fans of coaching for years, but there is still much uncertainty about what Lazor brings to the table.
The Eagles are expected to take a long look at Pederson’s former position, as he has coached at multiple levels of football.
He has a long track record in the college ranks, and was a three-time national champion at Michigan and has also worked as an offensive coordinator in the NFL.
In the past, Lazor was the offensive coordinator at Arizona, where he was fired in the first year after the Cardinals were knocked out of the playoffs by the New England Patriots.
Lazor was also an offensive assistant with the Indianapolis Colts and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2000-03, and the Chargers also fired him after the 2004 season.
He spent two seasons with the Rams, where Lazor helped them reach the playoffs in 2006.
The 49ers also had interest in Lazor as a candidate for their head coaching job, and after Pederson was fired, the team hired Bill Parcells, who served as the 49ers offensive coordinator for two seasons under Pete Carroll before being fired in 2016.
The Niners are expected be looking to hire a coach with a track record of success, as well.
In 2015, former Oakland Raiders coach Chip Kelly was the first offensive coordinator hired by the team after the departure of Kyle Shanahan.
Kelly, who had served as offensive coordinator under Chip Kelly for four seasons, was the quarterbacks coach for the Eagles last season.
Kelly was the defensive coordinator under the former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Peders before he was hired by Chip Kelly as the Eagles head football coach in 2014.
He was also the quarterbacks coordinator for the team during the 2012 season and was hired as the offensive coordinators coach for three years.
He also served as a special teams coordinator for three seasons under Kyle Shanahan in Seattle.
The Raiders also have been looking for a head coach, and have hired former NFL defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who was the coordinator for one year under Derek Carr in Denver before he left for the Cleveland Browns.
The Broncos hired Matt Cavanaugh, the Browns offensive coordinator from 2016-17.
The Falcons are expected pick a new offensive head coach for this season, with former Tampa Bay Bucs offensive coordinator Mike Smith expected to be a candidate.
Smith has been with the Buccaneers for nearly 10 years and has a track-record of success as an assistant coach in the league.
Smith has also coached at the college level, working as the quarterbacks and running backs coach at Oklahoma, Nebraska, Utah, and Colorado State.
He served as an assistants coach for a year at the University of Utah in 2017 before he accepted the position at Nebraska in 2019.
Smith was a two-time defensive coordinator for four years with the Raiders from 2013-17, including a season in which he helped lead the team to a berth in the NFC Championship Game.
He coached the Raiders defense for three games during the 2017 season, which was the second-most games coached in the division behind Arizona.
